Gunbarrel Area Original Gunbarrel inhabitants were nomadic Indian tribes who hunted in the area. As they stood on the hills looking for buffalo and deer on the plains below, they must have been awed by the spectacular, panoramic views of the snow-covered Rocky Mountains. Mountain and Golf Course Views Today, Gunbarrel homes cover 6.5 acres, and many have beautiful mountain and golf course views. The first Gunbarrel homes were built in the late 1960s after a large IBM facility was constructed several miles away. Several newer subdivisions arrived in the 1980s and 1990s. A Country Club and Shopping Center Boulder Country Club, a private 18-hole championship course, winds throughout several Gunbarrel subdivisions. There’s also shopping center close by. Gunbarrel Shopping Center offers a large grocery store, a medical center, banks, restaurants, post office, gas station, liquor store, barber shop, and a number of other businesses. IBM, ValleyLab, Celestial Seasonings, Leaning Tree, and White Wave Foods are located near Gunbarrel. Gunbarrel Services Newer subdivisions in Gunbarrel have been annexed into the city of Boulder, while older neighborhoods remain in Boulder County. Nearly all Gunbarrel subdivisions have Boulder addresses, are served by Boulder Valley School District, and receive water from the city of Boulder. The exceptions are a couple of subdivisions north of Lookout Road that have Longmont addresses and St. Vrain schools. Location Gunbarrel is located four miles north of Boulder and six miles southwest of Longmont along the Diagonal Highway. Its convenient location and quiet subdivisions near Boulder Country Club make it a popular choice for many individuals and families.
